ALABASTER DEPLUME // LEAFCUTTER JOHN

Alabaster Deplume’s ruthlessly creative approach to experimental pop music delivers eastern-influenced anthems, under spoken elements that attempt to challenge and address divisive rhetoric recently prevalent in society. Based in underground East London’s Total Refreshment Centre, saxophonist and spoken word artist Alabaster creates a new band each month in his development residency Peach, and he’ll be bringing this same atmosphere to the opening night of Jazz Stroud.

Leafcutter John aka John Burton is a key member of double mercury-prize nominees Polar Bear. His 5th studio album, Yes! Come Parade With Us, makes use field recordings for the Norfolk coastline and layers of modular synthesis to construct his experimental compositions. An electronics master of both modular synth and Max/MSP who over the years has self-assembled quite the collection of bespoke controllers for his musical performances, the centrepiece of John’s current live show is an arresting light-activated interface which enables a torch-controlled live performance like no other.
