Muses & Furies: Poetry readings

SVA, Goods Shed

Sunday 10 Nov 2019 14:00

With Jessica Mookherjee; Jacqueline Saphra; Julia Webb

14.00 - 15.00: Sunday 10th November
The Goods Shed

In association with Nine Arches Press, we are pleased to present three leading voices in contemporary poetry in a powerful set of readings exploring overlapping themes of myth, magic, fable and feminism.

Jessica Mookherjee, highly commended in the 2017 Forward Prizes presents her second poetry collection, “Tigress”. Mixing myth and migration, these poems explore the impact of choice upon our lives. With kaleidoscopic imagination, they also survey childhood and family, selfhood and womanhood.

Jacqueline Saphra was shortlisted for the TS Eliot Poetry Prize in 2019 for “All My Mad Mothers”. Her next collection, a sister volume entitled “Dad, Remember You Are Dead” is due out this autumn and takes on the male canon in an examination of fatherhood and daughterhood, of damage and potential redemption.

Julia Webb is the author of “Bird Sisters”, and most recently “Threat”. Forensically detailed and disturbing, the dark and sometimes brutal undertow of small-town existence seeps to the surface of her unsettling poems.
