Periscope Presents : Going Wandering: A one-day symposium exploring how different models of creative engagement enable individuals and communities to reimagine social and cultural narratives. As part of The Explorer’s Dream : Periscope’s latest immersive, creative event.

Contributors; Jane Sillis, Dr Wendy Russell, Dougald Hine, Rowan Salim and Sophie Christophy.

Periscope (Artists Emily Joy and Alison Cockcroft) will be inviting contributors to explore the intersection of art, play, education and cultural change.

Sophie Christophy (researcher and educator, co-founder of consent-based education setting ‘The Cabin’ ); investigates the relationships between and impact of the history of education and our current social norms, systems and behaviour., recognising that the greatest potential for social change exists within the intergenerational exchange between adults and children.

Rowan Salim (geographer, humanitarian and educator); concerned with ecologically sound, playful, and democratic learning environments. She is co-director/facilitator of Free We Grow, a learning environment founded on democratic, humanistic principles.

Dr Wendy Russell (senior lecturer in Play and Playwork at University of Gloucestershire) works in development, research, training and education with local, national and international organisations. Her research focuses on supporting children’s right to play, particularly in terms of the politics of space, policy and ethics.

Jane Sillis  (director of Engage - National Association for Gallery Education) whose mission is to enable access to art and artists to a wide community of participants, sharing best practice, research, professional development and leadership. Engage supports arts educators, organisations, freelancers and artists to work together with communities in dynamic, open exchanges.                          

Dougald Hine (author, editor and culture-maker)  is co-founder of the Dark Mountain project and Founder of ‘Home’ – a school for culture-makers and meeting point for those drawn to the work of re-growing a living culture.

Early bird : £20 from SVA / £25 online
From 1st October: £25 from SVA / £30 online
 
Tickets from SVA will be available until Saturday 26th October at 3pm, when the cafe closes. 
Online tickets will be available to purchase until Sunday 27th October at 9am. 

Bring and share lunch. Children welcome. Free for under 16s, accompanied by a paying adult.
